The Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at Saint Joseph Hospital is a highly specialized protocol that allows for effective management of critically ill patients with advanced respiratory failure, cardiac failure, and multiorgan failure. Sometimes referred to as a “last-chance option,” ECMO temporarily takes over heart and lung function by circulating blood outside the body in a form of advanced life support.
