As measured by the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS), a not-for-profit organization representing more than 7,600 surgeons, researchers, and allied health care professionals worldwide focused on improving outcomes for heart, lung, and chest-based surgeries, the St. Mary’s heart surgery scores¹ fall within the expected range, which is standard for the majority of participating programs.

Patient identification

St. Mary’s specializes in several surgical and transcatheter procedures ranging from Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and valve replacement to Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) to treat aneurysms in major arteries. Surgery may be necessary to treat severe or chronic heart problems that cannot be addressed with lifestyle changes, medication or nonsurgical procedures, including patients with:

• Valvular heart disease or infection
• Advanced peripheral artery disease (PAD)
• Aortic valve stenosis, blockage or insufficiency
• Aortic aneurysm
• Acute venous thrombosis
• Carotid artery disease
• Mitral valve stenosis, blockage or insufficiency
• Coronary artery occlusion or hardening requiring bypass surgery
• Holes in the heart or atrial septal defects
• Visceral artery disease
